Gerald Striedner

Gerald Striedner serves as Professor and Head of the Institute of Bioprocess Science and Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU). He leads a comprehensive research group focused on upstream process development for the production of recombinant proteins, plasmid DNA, and virus-like particles using bacterial, insect, and mammalian cell systems.

His research interests span advanced process characterization, E. coli expression system design, rational bioprocess development, process monitoring and control, continuous biomanufacturing, and synthetic biology applications. His work integrates PAT/QbD concepts to create efficient production platforms for bio-pharmaceutical, industrial, and environmental applications.

Analysis of his recent publications reveals a strong focus on cutting-edge bioprocess technologies including non-canonical amino acid incorporation, advanced protein purification methods, continuous manufacturing platforms, and enzyme engineering for polymer degradation.
