About
Ling Yuan is Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Kentucky's Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. She directs research on plant metabolic engineering and transcriptional regulation of specialized metabolism.
Her laboratory investigates: 1) Transcription factor networks controlling plant metabolite biosynthesis 2) Protein engineering of cytochrome P450 enzymes 3) Bioenergy crop development through metabolic engineering 4) Molecular mechanisms of plant-environment interactions. The Yuan Lab combines biochemical, genetic, and computational approaches to engineer plant metabolic pathways.
Analysis of 15 most recent publications shows dominant themes: transcriptional regulation of specialized metabolism (67% of articles), metabolic engineering applications (53%), and stress-responsive metabolism (40%). Technological approaches frequently employ multi-omics integration, protein engineering, and advanced gene silencing techniques.
Major research initiatives include NSF-funded projects on plant transcription factor engineering and DOE-supported biofuel crop development. She mentors graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in plant molecular biology, with former trainees in academic and biotech positions.
