Line Engbo Gissel is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences and Business at Roskilde University, Denmark. His research focuses on transitional justice, international law, and the political dynamics of institutions like the International Criminal Court (ICC), particularly in Africa. He co-authored Africa and the Backlash Against International Courts (2020) and authored The International Criminal Court and Peace Processes in Africa (2018). His current projects investigate the standardization of transitional justice policies across global sites, including Colombia, Syria, and Uganda.
Key research questions address the ICC’s political role, African state resistance to international courts, and the legalization of conflict resolution. He teaches courses on international institutions, law-politics relationships, and methodological approaches like process tracing.
