Lindsay Smith

Dr. Lindsay Smith is a Senior Lecturer (Research) and Lead of the NIHR/HEE ICA Mentorship Scheme at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). She is affiliated with the Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences (HAS) and collaborates with prominent institutions such as the Musculoskeletal Research Unit at the University of Bristol, the Leeds Musculoskeletal Biomedical Research Unit, and the Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences at the University of Oxford.

Research Interests: Lindsay specializes in long-term outcomes of hip and knee arthroplasties, including radiographic evaluation, biomaterial effects, service design, and professional roles in arthroplasty surveillance. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, emphasizing patient-reported outcomes and health economics. She also focuses on mentorship for advanced practitioners from non-medical backgrounds.

Teaching and Mentorship: She teaches orthopaedics, joint replacements, and inter-professional collaboration, while supervising medical and non-medical students at all academic levels. Through the NIHR/HEE scheme, she develops mentorship programs for non-medical professionals.

Labs/Teams: Collaborates with the Musculoskeletal Research Unit (UWE/UoB/UoO) and NHS teams to integrate clinical and academic work in musculoskeletal care.
