Dr. Linda Tate is an associate professor of English and coordinator of technical communication at Shepherd University. She specializes in American literature with a focus on Southern and Appalachian themes. Dr. Tate holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with minors in computer science and curriculum instruction.
Her research interests include contemporary Southern literature, technical writing pedagogy, and community engagement. She has published extensively, including monographs on Southern women writers and a forthcoming family memoir. Dr. Tate also pioneered the Shepherd College Writing Center and co-founded the Appalachian Heritage Festival.
- Recipient of 2003 West Virginia Professor of the Year ($10,000 award)
- Rockefeller Fellowship holder at Marshall University
- Leader in establishing the Appalachian Writer-in-Residence program
Her community service includes roles on the West Virginia Humanities Council, Shepherdstown Public Library board, and national initiatives like Action for Healthy Kids. Dr. Tate has supervised student internships at the Library of Congress and National Organization for Women headquarters.
