Lilly Havstad

Lilly Havstad is a Lecturer in the English Department Writing Program at Northeastern University, specializing in transnational history with a focus on colonialism, decolonization, migrations, and diasporas. She earned her PhD in History from Boston University in 2019, where her research examined Portugal’s colonial and postcolonial encounters with Mozambique.

Her research interests span transnational historical frameworks, colonial and postcolonial studies, and African diaspora history. She has contributed to journals such as Gender & History and the South African Historical Journal.

• Funding: Supported by Fulbright-Hays Doctoral Dissertation Research Abroad Fellowship, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation (Portugal), and BU Center for the Humanities.

As Assistant Editor for the International Journal of African Historical Studies, she collaborates with authors to refine their research narratives for a diverse readership.
