Lerverne Barber is the Head of the School of Sport and Exercise Science and a Senior Lecturer at the University of Worcester. She joined the institution in 2002 as a member of the Physical Education (PE) teaching team, later serving as Course Leader from 2008–2011. With extensive experience as a Secondary PE teacher, Ofsted Inspector, and PE consultant, she has contributed to national and international educational initiatives, including projects in China and Japan focusing on inclusive sport and PE.
Her qualifications include an MSc in Educational Management and Leadership, a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education, and a BEd (Hons) in Physical Education. Awards highlight her contributions to teaching excellence, including Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (2015) and National Teaching Fellow (2017).
Research and professional interests center on Learning and Teaching methodologies, Initial Teacher Education (particularly in PE), student retention and achievement, and sharing best practices in education. She has collaborated with organizations like the Youth Sport Trust and the Department for Education, advancing educational strategies and teacher training programs.
