Rhys Pritchard is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education (Physical Education) at the University of Worcester. He brings extensive experience from diverse educational settings in the UK, Dubai, and Australia, including roles as a Primary Class Teacher, Head of Games, and PE Lead. Currently, he specializes in Physical Education within the primary Initial Teacher Education (ITE) team, having led the subject for six years.

Rhys’s research focuses on applying Vygotskian theories to enhance conceptual understanding in sports coaching and primary PE provision. His doctoral thesis explored how language, collaboration, and contextual learning improve novice coaches’ abilities in rugby union. His work has influenced junior rugby programs and Ofsted-rated Outstanding primary PE curricula.
Rhys holds a Level 4 Welsh Rugby Union certification and has coached semi-professionally since 2019, including roles with Wales Women’s U20s and the WRU Development XV. He is recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy for his contributions to teaching and learning.
