Leonid Pugachev is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of Missouri–St. Louis (UMSL). A St. Louis native, he holds a B.A. from Saint Louis University (2011) and a Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma (2019). Before academia, he worked as an FDIC bank examiner in New England and taught at the University of Oklahoma, Oklahoma State University, and Rochester Institute of Technology.
His research focuses on banking regulation, corporate governance, and financial risk management. Notable work examines bank enforcement actions, fraud prediction, and vertical integration strategies. His articles appear in top journals like Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis and Journal of Banking and Finance.
Pugachev’s recent work explores automation’s impact on labor markets and the role of board independence in bank risk-taking.
