About
Leonard Cheung, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at Stony Brook University. He earned his PhD from University College London in 2013 and leads a research lab focused on pituitary gland genetics and physiology.
Research Interests:
- Molecular mechanisms of pituitary cell proliferation and specification
- Role of Wnt and Notch signaling pathways in pituitary development
- Genetics of pituitary tumorigenesis
- Stem cell aging and dietary regulation (vitamin A/folic acid)
- Developmental genetics of pituitary organogenesis
Research Approach: Combines in vivo mouse models, in vitro human embryonic stem cell models, and single-cell genomic technologies. Collaborates with the Stony Brook Pituitary Care Center (Drs. Raphael Davis and Igor Kravets).
Publication Trends: Focus on pituitary stem cell biology, signaling pathways, and genomic approaches across developmental stages and disease models.
