Leila Neti

Leila Neti is the Irma M. and Jay F. Price Professor in English at Occidental College, specializing in postcolonial Anglophone literature, Victorian literature, and intersections between law and literature. Her research examines how legal systems shape narratives of identity, sovereignty, and sociality through historical and contemporary lenses.

• Education: B.A. from UCLA, M.A. and Ph.D. from UC Irvine (2006).

Her work spans disciplines such as postcolonial theory, 19th-century British studies, and cultural criticism, with a focus on race, gender, class, and sexuality. Publications include a monograph on colonial legal systems in India and essays in journals like Law and Literature and Interventions.

Recent publications highlight ecocritical narratives, queer politics, and transnational legal frameworks, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach. She teaches courses such as Race, Law, and Literature and Bollywood Cinema and the 19th Century Novel.
