Lei Chen

Professor Lei Chen is a Professor of Railway Operation and Control at the University of Birmingham. He leads the Future Railway Operation and Control Theme at the UKRRIN Digital System Innovation Centre and the Railway Operation Control and Simulation team at the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education. His expertise spans railway systems, control engineering, and digital innovation in transportation.

Qualifications include BEng and PhD degrees, alongside Chartered Engineer (CEng) status. His research focuses on advancing railway operation methodologies and simulation technologies, contributing to both academic and industry applications.

Affiliations include the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education (BCRRE) and the UK Rail Research and Innovation Network (UKRRIN). He collaborates extensively with industry partners to bridge theoretical and practical challenges in railway systems.
