Leah Wingard is a Professor and Graduate Coordinator in the Department of Communication Studies at San Francisco State University. Her research focuses on Language and Social Interaction (LSI), examining communication practices in diverse settings such as teasing, microaggressions, parent-child socialization, medical encounters with diabetes patients, and resilience narratives among sex-trafficking survivors. She employs Discourse Analysis, Conversation Analysis, and ethnographic methods.
Dr. Wingard holds a Ph.D. in Applied Linguistics and teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in LSI content and methodologies. She developed the LSI video archive, accessible globally to researchers, and curates the LSI pedagogy page for the National Communication Association. Her office is located in HUM 258, with summer office hours on Mondays/Wednesdays 9-12pm and 1-5pm, Tuesdays 1-5pm, and remote availability Thursdays/Fridays.
