Lea Niccolai

Lea Niccolai is an Assistant Professor in Classics (specializing in Late Antique and Early Byzantine History) at the University of Cambridge's Faculty of Classics. She serves as a Fellow and Director of Studies in Classics at Trinity College. Previously, she was a Research Fellow at Peterhouse and a Teaching Associate in Ancient History at the Classics Faculty.

Education: She graduated from the Scuola Normale Superiore in Classics, earned an MA in Ancient Near East Studies (with a focus on Syriac language and literature) from the University of Pisa, and completed her PhD in Ancient History at King’s College, Cambridge (2020).

Her research emphasizes Late Antique and Early Byzantine History, Syriac studies, and interdisciplinary approaches to classical antiquity. She is actively involved in academic leadership within Trinity College and organizes events like the Bridging Binaries LGBTQ+ Tour.
