Lawrence Smith is a postdoctoral researcher in the Robotic Materials Department at the Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems (MPI-IS), Stuttgart. He earned his PhD and MS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder, and a BS in Mechanical Engineering from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Between his degrees, he worked as an engineering consultant specializing in medical device design.
