Professor Lavanya Rajamani is the Yamani Fellow in Public International Law at St Peter’s College and a Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Law. She holds a DPhil and BCL from Oxford (as a Rhodes Scholar), an LLM from Yale, and a B.A.LL.B. from National Law School, Bangalore. Her research focuses on international climate change law, particularly the legal dimensions of climate negotiations and compliance mechanisms. She has advised climate negotiators globally and was part of the core drafting team for the 2015 Paris Agreement.
Her work bridges academic research and practice, including roles as Coordinating Lead Author for the IPCC’s Sixth Assessment Report and legal counsel for the Government of Vanuatu’s International Court of Justice climate advisory case. Key publications include the Oxford Handbook of International Environmental Law (2021) and Innovation and Experimentation in the International Climate Change Regime (2020). She has received the 2018 American Society of International Law Certificate of Merit for her co-authored book International Climate Change Law.
Teaching includes courses on Public International Law, Jurisprudence, and International Environmental Law at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She leads research initiatives on climate litigation, differentiation in international law, and the intersection of human rights and environmental governance. Her contributions span academic, policy, and legal domains, shaping global responses to climate challenges.
