Laurids Hempel is a Research Fellow and Ph.D. candidate at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law since August 2024. His work focuses on EU Law, Public International Law, and Constitutional Law, with a particular emphasis on foreign electoral interference, supranational governance, and legal challenges in international relations.

Hempel’s research explores how the EU addresses foreign interference, plutocracy, and geopolitical challenges. He has contributed to interdisciplinary projects and publications, including a 2025 chapter co-authored with Carolyn Moser.
Hempel has presented at major conferences, including the 12th Max Planck Masterclass in International Law (2025) and ICON-S Germany’s annual conference (2024). He actively participates in academic dialogues on supranational democracy and geopolitical impacts on legal systems.
