Laura Witzleben

Laura Witzleben is a choreographer and performer affiliated with the University of Music and Drama Rostock (hmt) and the Volkstheater Rostock. As of 2023, she serves as the house choreographer at Volkstheater Rostock through 2026/2027. Her work bridges contemporary dance, theater, and interdisciplinary performance.

Education:

• Stage Dance, ArtEZ Hogeschool voor de Kunsten Arnhem (2004–2008)

Research & Artistic Focus: Laura specializes in physically driven choreography, collaborative creation, and the intersection of dance with documentary theater. Her projects often explore themes of identity, memory, and societal narratives through movement and spatial dynamics.

Notable Works: Her piece WILDFANG (2021), funded by Fonds Darstellende Künste, and HORROR! (2022) with Jan Viethen and Julius Gilbert exemplify her experimental approach. ZWEISAMKEITEN (2022), a collaboration with Simon Köslich, blends documentary elements with contemporary dance.

Grants & Collaborations: Funded by Fonds Darstellende Künste for WILDFANG. Collaborations include Thorleifur Orn Arnarsson (National Theater Oslo, Volksbühne Berlin), Alexander Nerlich (Staatstheater Mainz), and Lily Sykes (Burgtheater Wien).
