About
Laura Wild is an Assistant Professor in the School of Education at Durham University, holding dual roles as the Curriculum, Assessment and Student Experience (CASE) Programme Lead for the UG programme and leader of the Primary Mathematics Education team. She teaches on the PGCE and BA Primary Education programmes, and oversees a Leadership module. Her work also extends to collaboration with the Centre for Development in Professional Practice (CDP) and outreach initiatives in Initial Teacher Education (ITE).
Prior to academia, Wild accumulated 15 years of primary school teaching experience in Yorkshire, serving as Executive Deputy Headteacher and completing the National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH). She previously acted as Teaching for Mastery Lead for a Maths Hub, contributed to a Trust School Improvement Team, and led a Local Authority's Curriculum Development Project. She has been an associate member of the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM), designing and evaluating national workshops.
Her research focuses on mixed-age classroom pedagogy, mastery approaches in primary mathematics, and the role of questioning in formative assessment. Current projects include collaborative work with schools to optimize mathematics instruction across mixed-age classes, analysis of 'greater depth' mathematical thinking, and investigating real-time feedback practices.
Wild champions participant-centered learning, emphasizing sustained professional development design and evaluation through her work in CPD/outreach roles. She explores how pedagogical engagement can be maximized in teacher training and leadership development contexts.
