Laura Martin

Laura Martin is a Senior Lecturer in Law and Criminology at Sheffield Hallam University, joining in 2016. She teaches across Community Justice Learning and undergraduate criminology programs. Prior to academia, she spent 14 years in the Probation Service, holding roles such as Probation Officer and Senior Probation Officer, with later teaching on the Probation Qualification Framework. She also served as a former Director of the Probation Institute.

Her research focuses on clinical and professional education, reflected in her co-chair role at the Clinical and Professional Education Research and Practice Cluster. Key publications include work on probation education in online environments (2018) and the impact of COVID-19 on probation and criminal justice systems (2023).

Her career spans practical probation experience, professional training, and academic contributions to criminal justice education. She holds multiple qualifications including LL.B, BA, MSc degrees, and a PGCLTHE.
