Laura Joyner

Laura Joyner is a Research Fellow in Suicide Prevention Research at Middlesex University, working on a 3-year NIHR-funded project evaluating surveillance technology’s role in preventing suicide in public spaces. She holds a PhD from the University of Westminster (2023), supervised by Prof. Tom Buchanan and Dr. Orkun Yetkili, focusing on disinformation spread on social media linked to social identity and moral judgements. Previously, she earned an MSc Psychology (University of East London, 2020) and a Professional Diploma in Digital Marketing, transitioning from a 7-year career in fashion/retail PR and marketing. She maintains affiliations with the University of Westminster’s Centre for Psychological Sciences.

Her teaching roles include Associate Fellow of the HE Academy (AFHEA), with experience leading modules in Social Psychology, Research Methods (Levels 4-7), and providing statistics support for postgraduate psychology students. Her research interests bridge technology’s behavioral impacts, disinformation dynamics, and applied suicide prevention strategies.
