About
Dr Laura Havers is a postdoctoral researcher at Queen Mary University of London's Unit for Psychological Medicine within the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. She specializes in quantitative analysis of youth adversity and mental health, particularly using intersectionality frameworks. Her work integrates genetic, social, and environmental factors to understand adolescent mental health outcomes. She holds a PhD from Birkbeck, University of London (2022), focusing on psychotic-like experiences and negative symptoms in young people.
Her research interests span quantitative methodological innovation, including structural equation modeling and growth mixture modeling. She conducts workshops to demystify these techniques for applied mental health researchers and mentors early-career researchers (ECR) through a U.S. quantitative methods collective. She contributes to the ATTUNE project, analyzing secondary data to explore how gender, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, and place mediate the effects of adversity on mental health.
Dr. Havers has extensive clinical engagement, having worked with individuals experiencing mental health challenges during her academic journey. This experience drives her focus on capturing psychological constructs through rigorous quantitative methods. She actively participates in interdisciplinary collaborations and advocates for intersectional approaches in mental health research.
