About
Larissa K. Barber is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at San Diego State University with expertise in workplace behavior and employee well-being.
She received her Ph.D. from Saint Louis University and teaches courses in occupational health psychology, organizational psychology, personnel psychology, and organizational research methods.
Dr. Barber's research focuses on work-life balance, telework, workplace telepressure, employee sleep, worker stress and well-being, work recovery, work engagement, and inclusion at work. Her work examines how workplace communication expectations impact employee psychological recovery and well-being, particularly regarding the pressure to respond immediately to work messages.
Her recent research demonstrates that workplace telepressure is linked to work burnout, and she has found that disconnection policies alone are not sufficient to reduce this pressure - implicit norms around after-hours availability expectations and family-supportive work environments are more critical factors.
