Lara Baker-Power is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Worcester, affiliated with the School of Health and Wellbeing and the Department of Psychology and Mental Health. She serves as a Personal Academic Tutor (PAT), Module 1 Lead for the Postgraduate Certificate in Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner (MHWP) course, and one of the University's Safeguarding Leads (Students). Lara teaches full-time across undergraduate psychology courses, nursing programmes, and specialized modules in mental health care.
Her professional education includes completion of a Post Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. Prior to academia, Lara worked as a mental health clinician in NHS and private practice, specializing in Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy, and held roles as a Chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with elite men’s football and British Gymnastics.
- Research Interests: Focuses on psychological interventions for severe mental health conditions, stigma reduction in mental health discourse, and the intersection of sport/exercise with psychological wellbeing.
- Teaching Roles: Leads modules MHWP4101/3101, MHWP4102/3102, MHWP4103/3103, and PSYC2546 in applied psychological science.
Committed to breaking mental health stigmas, Lara advocates for compassionate conversations and evidence-based mental health practices. She combines clinical expertise with academic instruction to bridge theory and real-world application in mental health care and sport psychology.
