Matthew Spokes

Matthew Spokes is a Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Worcester, affiliated with the School of Health and Wellbeing and the Department of Psychology and Mental Health. He also serves as an Academic Integrity Tutor. His primary research and teaching focus on Sport Psychology, with expertise in applied settings across various sporting environments. Before joining Worcester in 2020, he worked as an Associate Lecturer while delivering mental health projects for adolescents with Action for Children.

Research Interests: Matt’s work explores topics such as social influence on athletes and officials, concussion management in sports, and the intersection of mental health and athletic performance. He integrates practical applications of psychological principles in sport, including counseling skills and public communication strategies related to traumatic brain injuries. His current professional development includes pursuing the British Psychological Society (BPS) Stage 2 qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology.

Teaching and Professional Engagement: He teaches modules like “Introducing Psychology” (PSYC1450) and “Cognitive Neuroscience and Biological Approaches” (PSYC2541), emphasizing interactive learning through debates and project-based tasks. His involvement with Action for Children highlights his commitment to adolescent mental health advocacy.
