Kristin Murphy

Kristin Murphy is an Assistant Professor and Associate Dean in the College of Education & Human Development at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her work focuses on special education, teacher preparation, and educational equity in exclusionary settings like juvenile corrections facilities. She holds a PhD in Special Education from the University of Florida (2014), an EdM from Harvard University (2008), and prior teaching experience in New York City schools. Murphy teaches courses in inclusive education, special education pedagogy, and research methods.

Her research explores teacher professional development, mixed reality simulations for preservice education, and systemic barriers in special education. She has led federally funded grants and published widely on topics including juvenile justice education, teacher retention, and qualitative methodologies. Murphy is committed to preparing educators to support marginalized students through innovative teaching strategies and equitable practices.
