Kristin Bright is an Associate Professor of Cultural and Medical Anthropology at Middlebury College, with additional graduate faculty roles at the University of Toronto Dalla Lana School of Public Health and Carleton University (Canada). She leads the Body Online Lab, focusing on adolescent mental health, cancer treatment, relational/sexual health, digital ecosystems, and end-of-life care. Her research emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding health inequities and digital activism. Bright holds a PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and has conducted postdoctoral work at UC Irvine, Stanford, and UC Berkeley. She has directed global studies on breast cancer in multiple countries and policy research on cancer therapeutics access.
Her current projects include a grant-funded initiative on Comparative Medical Humanities, evaluating school-based health centers, and researching hospice care. Teaching specialties include medical anthropology, South Asian diaspora studies, and critical theory. Bright advises students in pre-health fields, gender studies, and global health.
Her recent research explores digital shifts in cancer care access, youth-led health education, and therapeutic landscapes in primary care. Collaborations span institutions in Canada, Denmark, and New Zealand. Bright’s work bridges anthropological theory with applied health research, emphasizing decolonizing methodologies and community engagement.
