Krishna Moorthy is a Clinical Senior Lecturer in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery and Honorary Consultant Surgeon at the Department of Surgery & Cancer, Faculty of Medicine, Imperial College London. His clinical expertise focuses on oesophago-gastric and abdominal wall surgery. He holds an MS, MD, and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS).
His research interests span multiple domains, including:
- Systems safety and quality improvement in surgical practices
- Information transfer and multi-disciplinary handover processes
- Safety and teamwork dynamics in operating theatres
- Quality of care for elective and emergency surgery patients
- Curriculum development and pedagogy, particularly simulations in surgical training
Moorthy has made significant contributions to global healthcare, such as his role in the WHO working group for the surgical safety checklist and leading the PREPARE prehabilitation program, which won the BMJ Surgical Team of the Year 2017 award.
