Knut Inge Klepp is an Adjunct Professor of Medicine (Public Health Nutrition) at the Department of Nutrition, Faculty of Medicine, University of Oslo (since 2006). He also serves as Executive Director of the Division of Mental and Physical Health at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (since 2015) and has held leadership roles such as Director General of the Division of Public Health at the Norwegian Directorate of Health (2006–2015). His academic career includes professorships at the University of Bergen and University of Oslo, focusing on public health nutrition, health promotion, and global health.
Education: PhD in Behavioral Epidemiology from the University of Minnesota (1984–1987), Master of Public Health (1983–1984), and earlier degrees from the University of Oslo.
Research Interests: Adolescents’ dietary habits, obesity prevention, nutrition policy, health equity, and global health initiatives. His work emphasizes participatory approaches, policy evaluation, and the social determinants of health. Recent projects include the CO-CREATE initiative to co-create obesity policies with youth and the NOURISHING/MOVING policy benchmarking tools.
Grants & Projects: Led major EU-funded projects such as CO-CREATE (€9.6M), ENERGY, and PRO Children. Coordinated interventions in Norway and Africa addressing adolescent health, HIV/AIDS prevention, and school-based nutrition programs.
Labs/Teams: Headed the Centre for Prevention of Global Infections at the University of Oslo (2004–2010) and collaborated on global health initiatives like the Adolescent Reproductive Health Network in Africa.
