Kimberly (Kim) Coleman is an Associate Professor and Director of the Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Program at the Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources, University of Vermont. Previously, she served as a faculty member at SUNY Plattsburgh’s Center for Earth and Environmental Science (2018–2022). Her research focuses on the human dimensions of natural resources, including public land management, environmental justice, and outdoor recreation. She emphasizes collaborative work with state/federal agencies, land managers, and non-profits, particularly in the Northern Forest Region and Lake Champlain Basin.
Dr. Coleman holds a B.S. and M.S. in Environmental Studies and Natural Resources from the University of Vermont, and a Ph.D. in Forest Resources and Environmental Conservation from Virginia Tech. She co-founded Green Mountain Off-Road Inc., a non-profit promoting cycling diversity, and serves on the Williston Conservation Commission. Her teaching and research integrate community-engaged pedagogy and problem-based learning, fostering connections between academia and practice.
Her research publications explore topics like mountain biking impacts, environmental education equity, and disaster recovery. Collaborative projects, such as the Common Problems Project, demonstrate her commitment to interdisciplinary and community-driven solutions. She actively mentors students interested in environmental studies and graduate programs.
