About
Prof. Kim Vincs is a Senior Principal Research Fellow and Research Director at Swinburne University of Technology's School of Social Sciences, Media, Film and Education. Her work bridges art, technology, and science through interdisciplinary research in motion capture, virtual/augmented reality, and digital performance. She holds a PhD from Deakin University, an MFA from Mills College, and a BScOptom from the University of Melbourne.
Her research focuses on digital technologies for performance, including VR/AR applications, robotics, and haptics. Notable projects include the ARC-funded 'Embodied Movement Network' and collaborations with Autodesk, Victorian Opera, and Australian Dance Theatre. Vincs has created over 20 digital artworks, such as The Crack Up and Multiverse, and pioneered accessibility frameworks for deafblind audiences through haptic interfaces.
Recipient of two National Teaching Awards, she designs curricula integrating art, technology, and humanities. Key grants include 6 ARC grants (Discovery, Linkage, LIEF) and industry partnerships with over 35 companies. Her work explores motion capture in gaming, cognitive psychology, and biomechanics, with recent advancements in volumetric interaction and extended reality training systems.
