Kim K. Winter

Kim K. Winter is a Professor and Dean of the College of Education and Allied Professions at Western Carolina University, concurrently serving as superintendent of The Catamount School, a UNC System lab school. Her roles emphasize academic leadership in accreditation, curriculum development, and partnership-building. With a PhD from Indiana State University, her expertise spans teacher induction, performance-based assessment, middle-level education, and higher education administration. As a full-time administrator, she has secured over $3.7M in grants and an endowment for early literacy professorships.

Dr. Winter’s research focuses on teacher development, trauma-informed practices, digital citizenship, and middle school pedagogy. Her volunteer service includes roles on the NC State Board of Education Literacy Task Force, Teaching Fellows Commission, and UNC System Education Advisory Group. She teaches courses on middle grades philosophy, adolescent development, and literacy methods.
