Kim D. Janda is the Ely R. Callaway, Jr. Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Worm Institute for Research & Medicine (WIRM) at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). He holds joint appointments in Immunology & Microbial Science and the Skaggs Graduate School. His research merges chemistry with immunology, focusing on catalytic antibodies, drug addiction treatment (e.g., opioid vaccines), obesity prevention, and antibacterial strategies. He has pioneered therapeutic approaches against chemical/biological threats and neglected tropical diseases.
Education: B.S. (Clinical Chemistry, University of South Florida, 1980), M.S. and Ph.D. (Organic & Medicinal Chemistry, University of Arizona, 1983–1984).
Research Interests: Immunopharmacotherapy, antibody engineering, fentanyl/opioid neutralization, SARS-CoV-2 antivirals, and bacterial quorum sensing inhibition.
Awards: Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award (1999), Alfred Bader Award (2017), multiple NIH recognitions, and honorary doctorates.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Janda Lab, which develops chemical tools for biomedical challenges, including vaccines for addiction and pandemic countermeasures.
