About
Kim Borges is a Professor in the Chemistry Department at Warren Wilson College. With a career spanning decades, she specializes in aquatic microbiology and public health, focusing on the biochemistry of environmental mycobacteria and mycobacteriophages. Her research integrates tools from biochemistry, molecular biology, and microbiology to study microbes in freshwater ecosystems, including hot springs, contaminated beaches, and riverine environments.
- Education: B.S. in Biology, Rochester Institute of Technology
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Dartmouth College
Her research explores microbial lifestyles in aquatic systems, emphasizing environmental and biochemical interactions. She teaches courses in general chemistry and biochemistry, including CHM 1170, CHM 4070, and CHM 4080. As supervisor of the Chemistry Research Crew and a pre-health advisor, she mentors students in interdisciplinary scientific inquiry.
