Kevin Carney

Dr. Kevin Carney is an Assistant Professor of Economics at the University of Michigan, Department of Economics, within the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. He holds a PhD from Harvard University (2022), an MA from the Paris School of Economics (2016), and a BA from the University of Michigan (2012). His research focuses on development and behavioral economics, with a focus on field experiments addressing policy challenges in developing countries.

Research areas include the psychology of ownership in microfinance (Kenya), social media’s impact on political knowledge (India), and educational interventions like India’s ‘happiness curriculum’ aimed at improving mental health and academic outcomes. Dr. Carney emphasizes student collaboration in research, advising on experimental design, data analysis, and interpreting results. He aims to foster independent research skills in graduate students and expand undergraduates’ understanding of economics’ societal applications.
