Kevin Baaske

Dr. Kevin Baaske serves as a Professor in the Department of Communication Studies within the College of Arts and Letters at California State University, Los Angeles. He holds significant administrative roles including Secretary of the campus Academic Senate, Faculty Representative to the Academic Senate of the California State University system, and served as Chair of the CSU Chancellor's General Education Advisory Committee during 2017-2018.

His educational foundation includes a Ph.D. in Rhetoric from the University of Southern California (1989), complemented by an M.A. and B.A. in Communication from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee (1978 and 1976 respectively).

Dr. Baaske's scholarly work centers on public argumentation and rhetorical discourse analysis, with specialized focus on presidential campaign rhetoric and the strategic function of vice presidential candidates in elections. His research bridges political communication theory and practical policy dispute resolution, examining how rhetorical frameworks shape public policy debates.

As an engaged academic citizen, he regularly participates in the National Communication Association and Western States Communication Association conferences, where he actively mentors Cal State LA students through presentation opportunities and professional development guidance. His Senate responsibilities currently limit classroom teaching, though he maintains expertise in Theories of Communication: Humanities, Argumentation, and Campaign Communication courses.
