Kerstin Brätsch is a Professor of Painting/Drawing at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK Hamburg). Her practice explores painting as an expanded field, integrating traditional techniques like stained glass, marbling, and stucco marble alongside collaborative projects. She co-founded DAS INSTITUT (2007) and collaborates under KAYA with Debo Eilers since 2010.
Education: MFA at Columbia University (2005–2007), Universität der Künste Berlin (2001–2008).
Research interests focus on redefining painting’s agency through interdisciplinary and collective processes, questioning authorship and historical narratives. Notable exhibitions include solo shows at Ludwig Forum Aachen (2022), Fondazione Memmo (2018), and Museum Brandhorst (2017), alongside Venice Biennale participations (2022, 2011).
Awards include the Helen Frankenthaler Award (2020), Edvard Munch Art Award (2017), and Villa Romana Prize (2019).
