Kerry Woolfall

Professor Kerry Woolfall is a Professor in Health Research Methodology within the Department of Public Health, Policy and Systems at the University of Liverpool's Faculty of Health and Life Sciences. She serves as Head of Public Health Policy and Systems and is an active researcher, educator, and ethics committee member with significant contributions to clinical trials methodology.

Her research focuses on exploring clinicians' and patients' perspectives to inform the design and conduct of health research, particularly in clinical trials without prior consent in emergency and critical care situations. Dr. Woolfall leads several major research initiatives including the CONNECT study on consent methods in pediatric emergency care trials, the ECLiPSE study on emergency treatment for status epilepticus in children, and the METHODICAL study on patient and public involvement in clinical trials.

Her recent publications demonstrate expertise across multiple domains including pediatric emergency care, neonatal medicine, obstetrics, oncology rehabilitation, and research ethics. These works consistently emphasize stakeholder engagement, ethical considerations in trial design, and improving patient-centered outcomes in critical care settings.

As an educator, Professor Woolfall teaches modules on health psychology, healthcare interventions evaluation, and research projects while supervising numerous theses on diverse topics from autism to pediatric epilepsy surgery. She serves as Chair of the European Commission funded BIND study ethics board and is a member of the Health Research Authority National Research and Ethics Panel. Her leadership extends to the Paediatric Emergency Research in the UK and Ireland (PERUKI) collaboration and multiple NIHR and MRC funded studies.
