About
Ken Walsh is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Ohio University’s Russ College of Engineering and Technology. He joined the institution in 2009 after visiting faculty roles at Bradley University and Florida A&M University and a research position at Florida A&M University’s Laboratory for Modern Fluid Physics.
Education: Ph.D. (Civil Engineering, Florida A&M, 2005), M.S. (Civil Engineering, Florida A&M, 2002), B.S. (Civil Engineering, Florida State University, 2000).
Research focuses on vibration control, structural dynamics, ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC), and bridge engineering. Key areas include passive/semi-active damping systems, seismic protection, and structural health monitoring. His work explores novel materials and devices to improve infrastructure resilience against environmental and seismic stresses.
Publications emphasize damper systems, UHPC applications in bridge joints, and thermal/structural behavior analysis. Recent work includes passive resettable dampers and adaptive stiffness systems for earthquake mitigation.
Grants and projects include Ohio Department of Transportation-funded studies on UHPC bridge connections and NSF support for stiffness systems. Collaborators frequently involve Eric Steinberg and Ali Semendary on UHPC and bridge projects.
