Ken Schaphorst is a Professor and Chair of Jazz Studies at the New England Conservatory (NEC), leading the Jazz Orchestra and founding the NEC Youth Jazz Orchestra in 2008. He holds a BA from Swarthmore College, MM from NEC, and DMA from Boston University, with studies in composition under notable mentors. A prominent figure in jazz composition, he founded the Ken Schaphorst Big Band in 1989, commissioning works for renowned artists like John Medeski and Maria Schneider.
