Ken Hanley is a Lecturer in the Department of Hospitality, Recreation and Tourism at California State University East Bay. He has been affiliated with the institution since 1995, also serving in the Business Management and Marketing Department until 2006. Holding a BA (1982) and MS (1984) from CSUEB, his career spans over five decades in adventure recreation and environmental education. He co-founded the Bay Area Environmental Education Resource (B.A.E.E.R.) Fair in 1985, which became the largest environmental education fair in the western U.S., and owns Adventures Beyond/Pacific Extremes, an adventure travel and field seminar business established in 1977.

His expertise includes outdoor leadership, environmental stewardship, and experiential education. As a professional fly fisher, he authored seven books including a 2008 award-winning title on fly-tying techniques. He has conducted programs for 18,000+ students globally and maintains affiliations with prominent outdoor brands like SIMMS and Patagonia.
Ken’s speaking engagements and workshops span North America, Europe, and Mexico, complementing his industry leadership roles including Federation of Fly Fishers Hall of Fame induction (2005).
