Kelly Anderson

Dr. Kelly Anderson is an Associate Professor in the Departments of Epidemiology and Biostatistics and Psychiatry at Western University, and holds a Canada Research Chair in Public Mental Health Research. She is also the Graduate Chair and an Associate Scientist at multiple institutes, including the Children’s Health Research Institute and Lawson Health Research Institute. Her research focuses on public mental health, particularly first-episode psychosis, social determinants of health, and healthcare service utilization. She has led numerous studies on migrant mental health, cannabis policy impacts, and disparities in primary care access for individuals with psychosis.

Education: BHSc (Health Sciences, McMaster University), MSc (Health Research Methodology, McMaster University), PhD (Epidemiology, McGill University).

Research Interests: Public Mental Health, Early Psychosis Intervention, Health Administrative Data Analysis, Systematic Reviews, and Mixed Methods Research. Key themes include understanding the social and environmental factors influencing mental health outcomes and improving healthcare equity for marginalized populations.

Recent Grants: Includes studies on childhood antecedents of mental disorders, cannabis legalization impacts on psychosis, and neighborhood marginalization effects on psychosis incidence. Notable awards include the Canada Research Chair and Ontario Mental Health Foundation’s New Investigator Fellowship.

Labs/Teams: Leads interdisciplinary teams at ICES Western and collaborates with institutions like the Institute for Clinical Evaluative Sciences (ICES). Her work integrates epidemiological methods with health policy analysis to address gaps in mental healthcare delivery.
