Kelley Howarth

Kelley Howarth serves as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Romance Languages at the University of Oregon, where she has taught since 2002 after completing her master's studies in Romance Languages. She is a core faculty member and former coordinator of the Spanish Heritage Language (SHL) Program, dedicated to creating inclusive academic spaces for students reconnecting with their native Spanish.

Her research centers on Spanish Heritage Language Education, with specialized focus on linguistic trauma recovery, validation of non-standardized Spanish varieties, and culturally responsive pedagogy. Howarth champions collaborative learning frameworks that integrate students' lived experiences, cultural knowledge, and historical contexts into language reclamation processes.
