Dr. Keith Mayes is Professor of Black Studies at UC Santa Barbara, holding a Ph.D. in History from Princeton University. His scholarship examines post-war black social movements through frameworks of biopower and narrative resistance.
Major research streams include: historical analysis of special education systems and discriminatory labeling of black students; investigation of anti-blackness in psychological and medical epistemologies; and critical disability studies approaches to institutional structures. His award-winning book 'The Unteachables' analyzes intersections of civil rights and disability rights movements.
