Keith Kothman is a Professor of Composition at the Irving S. Gilmore School of Music, Western Michigan University. He holds a Ph.D. in Music (Composition) from the University of California, San Diego, and M.M. and B.M. degrees in Composition from the University of Texas at Austin. His research explores live-performance electronic music involving laptops, iPads, MIDI controllers, and LittleBits synthesis modules, with scholarly interests spanning the aesthetics of modernism/postmodernism, sociology of music technology, and Morton Feldman's later works.
Honors include an Honorable Mention at the Bourges Electroacoustic Music Competition, with recordings available on Capstone, Cambria, and New Albany labels. Previously, he served as Director of the School of Music at Montana State University and held faculty positions at Ball State University and the University of Miami.
