Keith Bishop is a Senior Lecturer in Working with Children, Young People and Families at the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies, Newman University. With over 30 years of experience in youth work and social care, he focuses on fostering, safeguarding, and social justice. He joined Newman in 2012 after roles in local authorities and charities, including Senior Youth Worker and Regional Family Services Officer.
Education: Holds a Master’s degree with a dissertation on pupil disaffection in secondary education, and current research explores foster care experiences of children in same-sex families. Teaching focuses on anti-discriminatory practice and intersections of education and social care.
Research Interests: Includes care-experienced children, young carers, transgender student support, homelessness, and safeguarding. He has supervised student dissertations on these topics.
Professional Memberships: Member of the Institute for Youth Work and part of the LGBTQ+ Staff Network at Newman.
