Kavyta Raghunandan

Dr. Kavyta Raghunandan is a Senior Lecturer in Race and Education at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, University of London. Her academic journey includes a BA(Hons), PGCE (Greenwich), MA (Leeds), and PhD (Leeds) in Sociology, with a focus on racial and gendered identity performativity in Trinidad and Tobago.

• Research interests span race, gender, sexuality, and culture, with a transnational lens on South Asia, the Caribbean, and the UK.
• Current projects include a Swedish Research Council-funded deracialisation study across Sweden, South Africa, Brazil, and the UK, emphasizing intersectional approaches.
• She leads the MA in Race, Education and Decolonial Thought and has published extensively on topics such as mixed-race identity, digital media, and cultural critique.

Her work bridges academic and popular culture platforms, interrogating racialised beauty politics, carnival practices, and media representations through ethnographic and intersectional frameworks.
