Katja Starken

Katja Starken serves as Professor of International Management at Hamburg School of Business Administration (HSBA) since December 2023, following prior roles as lecturer in HSBA's Bachelor's and Master's programs. A PhD holder in Organization and Organisational Behaviour from Northumbria University, she brings 15+ years of industry experience as a Managing Consultant at Price Waterhouse Coopers and IBM, where she advised multinational corporations on global transformation projects as a change and project manager.

Her academic foundation includes:

• Business Administration, International Business Administration, and European Business Management studies across Düsseldorf, Hamburg, and Newcastle upon Tyne (UK)
• Doctoral degree in Organization and Organisational Behaviour (Northumbria University)

Research focuses on Organisational Behaviour and Diversity in international contexts, examining gendered dynamics in knowledge creation processes within organizations. Her industry background directly informs teaching in Strategic Management, Organization, and Innovation, covering strategy development, project execution, and emerging science trends.

Publications reveal cohesive expertise in organizational learning: the 2013 doctoral thesis analyzed gendered knowledge creation in knowledge-intensive firms, while the 2007 article explored relational tensions in communities of practice. Collectively, these works demonstrate specialization in Management and Organizational Behavior, with recurring themes in knowledge management, social dynamics, and structural influences on workplace collaboration.

Complementing her HSBA position, she serves as strategy expert for IMD's Executive MBA program in Lausanne since 2020, integrating academic theory with executive-level business applications.
