About
Katie Boyle is an Associate Professor in International Human Rights Law at the University of Stirling and currently serves as a Research Visitor at the Bonavero Institute of Human Rights (Michaelmas Term 2021) and Visiting Fellow of Mansfield College, Oxford.
Her research centers on the legalisation of human rights, with primary focus on economic and social rights across constitutional settings, emphasizing transformative constitutionalism experiences from the Global South. She develops deliberative democracy-based adjudication principles to address social rights enforcement critiques through multi-institutional incorporation models, and examines effective remedies including structural solutions for systemic violations.
Boyle leads a Nuffield Foundation-funded project on UK access to justice for social rights violations, involving practitioner-focused qualitative research. Her policy advisory roles include:
- First Minister’s Advisory Group on Human Rights Leadership (Scotland)
- Academic Advisory Panel to the National Taskforce on Human Rights Leadership
- Scottish Government UNCRC Incorporation Advisory Group
Her work directly influenced Scotland's UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Incorporation Bill 2021, and has been cited by the UN Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing with Spanish translation for Chile's constitutional process.
