About
Katherine Hambridge is Associate Professor of Musicology at Durham University. Her research examines French and German musical cultures (1789-1848), focusing on music and politics, popular theatre, and voice/gender studies. She earned her PhD from the University of Cambridge.
Hambridge reconstructs performance practices of melodrama and vaudeville through workshops with musicians. Her interdisciplinary work analyzes how music shaped political identities during revolutionary periods. Current projects investigate the construction of 'German' vocal identity through digital humanities approaches.
A Jerome Roche Prize recipient, she has curated exhibitions and presented at major venues including the V&A Museum. She collaborates regularly with Royal Northern Sinfonia on public musicology initiatives.
